Nah, life is going just fine here. I'm going to university after this summer so that'll be hella fun.
Is China still blocking all the important unimportant stuff?
Good to hear, is it a university in the Netherlands or are you going overseas?
Yep, still blocking sites like Youtube and Facebook. Unless the half-communist system falls apart, their cyber legacies will not change. But I have VPN and APN which allow me to browse Facebook and Twitter just fine, although I don't really use those sites except for observing info.
I'm moving to Hong Kong this summer tho, so I'll be freed from the clutches of internet censorship and the IB education system, not to mention that I'll have tons of free time. It's about time I'm leaving this blasted country.
It's the University of Amsterdam; I'm assuming you know where that is. :)
Facebook is actually pretty useless imo. You're not doing too much except for chatting with people. It's like SMS'ing for me.
Hah get rekt http://i.imgur.com/OHbyEaG.jpg
Hong Kong seems better than China by a mile. Do they speak Chinese there too?
Ah of course, I think I've seen the compound itself a couple of times during my stay in Amsterdam last year. As for myself, I'm aspiring to enter the University of Utrecht. Just wanna live my college life in my home province, y'know.
Yes it's true that FB is just like SMS, only that you can stalk anyone, anytime, and watch almost their every move. There are a lot of other apps that are better suited for chatting, such as Skype, former MSN which is now dead and I miss it dearly, whatsapp, line, etc.
Damn I didn't know HK had the 4th fastest average internet speed, also didn't know the Netherlands ranked 3rd, but South Korea was expected. Still, #asian-cyber-supremacy
It's entirely true that Hong Kong is better than China (no shit sherlock). Hong Kong is politically more British than anything else (being a colony of England until 1997), and most people there speak English and Cantonese (main languages). To clarify, Chinese can mean two things: Mandarin (which most of China speaks, and what I can speak now), and Cantonese (which the people of Hong Kong speak). Honestly, I prefer Mandarin; Cantonese sounds retarded IMO.
Have you been following this year's World Cup? Brazil VS Netherlands is going on later today, but I'm not gonna watch it - it's a pointless 3rd place match. I heard van Gaal might just have his substitute squad playing today.
Ooh, are you going to move to the Netherlands again? You must have very travel-willing parents. I hope for you that you'll be able to study. I've been fortunate enough to have the brain, money and the will to study at a university.
I really don't use social media that aren't called facebook that much. I rarely ever have my phone with me. I think I've sent about 50 SMS's in my life of which 40 were to my mother.
I've always seen South Korea as an internet country. Isn't their national sport starcraft or something?
I knew there was a mandarin language in China and that it's the main language in China but not that there's another type of Chinese. Are the two languages like Dutch/Flemish or is it more like Dutch/German?
I watched parts of it. I wasn't at home so I didn't really get to see it but I heard they were dong well.
You betcha I'm following the world cup. I finally achieved my life goal in getting the top comment on a reddit thread with >1000 comments!
But in all seriousness, they did really well this world cup.
Did you also see tht small video showing why China didn't make it into the group stage? They were playing against some other team and the ball rolled into their own goal after both the defender and the goal keeper made a mistake. It was pretty hilarious to see but I'm not sure if it was a vid of the real team as I wouldn't recognize any of the players and it was from youtube so the source was unknown.
I've traveled all across the globe with my parents, ranging from Europe to Africa, America to Asia. I don't lack the intelligence and money, but I need a little push to get my will going. I'm a pretty lazy guy. :P I just hope my experiences in multi-cultural societies can give me an edge in the future.
50 SMS?! That's an awfully...few messages. I send at least 50 texts a day (but that's only because I use mobile apps that don't require a fee, instead just require WIFI). Not a day goes by that I cannot leave my phone, but that's because I play Clash of Clans on my phone which needs my daily supervision - I trust that if you visited the app store or Google store once and checked the top grossing apps, you'll recognize this game instantly, as it's the No. 1 grossing app.
Yeah, South Korea is known for being the best in many e-sports, Starcraft being the most popular, I believe. They also excel at League of Legends, DotA, etc. Their training regime is pretty harsh compared to the US & Europe, tho.
Honestly, the gap between Mandarin and Cantonese is so great, you must learn the languages separately. Whenever I hear two Cantonese people speaking their native tongue, I can't make out a single word that they're saying. Mandarin already has a lot of dialects that can be compared with Dutch-Flemish, but Cantonese is like comparing Dutch with Norsk or Swedish - both have common roots, but are very distinct.
lol Reddit. I forgot that Reddit existed. What did you say that got you the top comment?
I don't pay attention to the Chinese national team nor seen any of their fails, because they suck horribly and I didn't see a video of them playing for more than a year. Chinese football is so bad, even Chinese people admit that their football is awful and they have little to no hope of improving it. I once saw on TV three football specialists that were discussing why China's football is shit and the ways of improving it - reasonable solutions being zero. I wouldn't be surprised if they scored an own goal. I will pay tribute the day China gets into the World Cup group stages again - which is long from now.
Fun fact: the Chinese women national team is better than the male counterpart.
The multicultural thing will very probably help you. How many languages can you speak now? I mean, you have Dutch, English and Chinese.. erm.. Mandarin. I've traveled to a lot of places too but not as intensive as you have. Tell me, is there a country/district/province I need to see in my life?
I practically never use my phone for text messages and similar stuff. That's because I never have my phone with me; if I want to tell stuff to people I prefer to do it in person or I do it over my house phone. Even though what we're doing right now would probably be closest to text messaging.
I've seen a whole lot of stuff about clash of clans, mainly because it's advertised like no other app. I used to do something like that but that was because my chemistry teacher was one of the big guys on that website and me and a few other people in my class wanted to take him down. I farmed for like a month with a few other peeps and then came to the conclusion that he's been doing this for years and that we didn't stand a chance lol.
South Korea actually has training regimes for that stuff? Wow.
I do not remember what I said for that reddit thing; I believe it was on a game where there was a shit referee (which was like all of them) and I said that it wasn't the referee's fault that the team lost or something.
Nice football team you have there. In my eyes the entirety of China does Table tennis and gymnastics.
Yep, 3 languages. I can also understand German and Spanish to a certain extent.
Honestly, I say China. While I don't like it here, it arguably is one of the best places to go if you want to experience a totally different culture. Apart from that, going to an International school really helps, since you'll (hopefully) be introduced to all kinds of people.
If I had to tell you something in person every time I wanted to say something, I'd have to take an airplane every day. :P Sometimes texting is necessary ( although I call this NG commenting-and-back "e-mailing"). Do you know anyone in your class/grade that is really quiet IRL but is really open when texting? I know one girl who is like that.
Have you not heard of the training regimes in S. Korea? It's not only the e-sport teams, those k-pop bands go through harsh training regimes to perfect their songs (even tho I still dislike k-pop). Think about it: hardcore studying, hardcore gaming, hardcore training, etc. There's a reason why Asians are better than Westerners at some/most things, such as gaming. What they call 'normal', we'd call 'no life'.
Referees were pretty shit this WC. I remember watching the France VS Germany match when Klose was taken down by a French defender in the penalty box - no penalty was given even tho it should've been one.
Yeah, you got that right. China also excels at diving. They're pretty good overall on all sorts of sport events EXCEPT for football. Kinda ironic since the very origin of the object football originated from China before it was developed in England. :P
Hello again. Sorry for the reaction time but I was in Italy and the first ~5 days I had okay wi-fi but after that we went to a new place and that was not as high-tech so I couldn't really get to you. I wouldn't reccommend Italy as a holiday place if you ever decide to go to it: it's really busy (even more so than Greece/France) and if you're spoiled with cool things from other countries then Italy will seem kinda meh.
If you understand Dutch then German isn't that difficult to understand tbh. It sounds like a crumpled version of Dutch. Speaking it is more difficult though.
As for Spanish, I had lessons at my primary school (ya rly, I was that bored with other classes) but I only remember 3 words: zorro, meaning fox, gordo, meaning fatty, and soy.
What's so different about Chinese culture? Are they more easy-going?
Well, since I've only ever sent 8 texts that were not to my mother I can't say I know many people who are open when they text. What's the difference between texting and e-mailing anyway? The only thing I can imagine is the address. (# or @)
There's.. training regimes for pop music? That sounds like hard work. You mean there's not just schools but also people who make the artist work for them like puppets?
At least the no life thing makes me feel better about having so many medals. :P
I can also name at least two goals during games when the Dutch played that shouldn't have been there because of bad calls by referees. It must be a tough job though. Too bad the FIFA has its bullocks tightened too much to position camera referees on the field.
They don't seem to be very good at most of the popular sports in western countries -- tennis, football, basketball, golf, baseball, ...
Do you happen to know of any recipes that I could make? I cook once a week and usually have a hard time deciding what to cook.
Whoops, forgot about NG again.
I'm just wondering, do you guys have Steam?
Oh hi, me too :]
I do not have steam. I'm downloading everything ill.. I mean borrowing my games from the internet.
I've heard of many cool games on steam but I'm way too much of a cheapskate.
Mss y'all.
D'aww, do you still visit?
Barely.
Do you have smash 4 or Mario Kart 8? I need online friends to play with :]
This shitty ass inverted commenting system.
I thought you went haywire and deleted everything lol.
I don't think I'll ever delete this stuff; doesn't seem to be too hurting and some stuff was pretty funny.
Tom changed it because of http://i.imgur.com/letGArZ.png
He has a point I guess, but not too user friendly still
First comment of April 2015.
Not that it really matters. Browsing here feels like walking in a graveyard full of friends and relatives that once lived in the same town as I did.
You guys read creepypastas, btw?
Ay Chrausner. I've been talking to Cyberdevil about food in another news post so it's not really the first comment of April but nice to see you again.
The bulk of creepypastas are too poorly written to really enjoy. The only one I did like went something like
""A guy is at his house, making out with his girlfriend, when suddenly the phone rings. He answers it and a voice says 'TOUCH MY DAUGHTER AGAIN AND I'LL KILL YOU', and then the line goes dead. The guy asks his girlfriend about it and she says 'My dad's been dead for 10 years..'"
BUT WHO WAS PHONE?!"
Whoops, late response, I literally forget that this site exists. Gonna bookmark this page for now and try to visit once in a while to reconnect some old bonds.
But ehehe that's old.
Btw, if you're looking for decent creepypastas, I recommend CreepsMcPasta https://www.youtube.com/user/CreepsMcPasta, a British narrator. He has some video game pastas on his channel (including Pokemon), which you can find in the playlist section. He makes almost every creepypasta creepier, which is good.
I heard you stream on Twitch sometimes, too; I followed just now. Do you still stream or is that phase gone?
AND Y U NO ACCEPT MY STEAM FRIEND REQUEST
Lastly, god bless that people can change the comment sort order mode back to 'show newest first'.
PS: I probably didn't mention this (I think), so I'll say it (again, if I said it before): greetings from the Netherlands. I'm meeting up with MaartenC during Hemelvaartdag. (Utrecht FTW)
Oh right, I made a steam a while ago. Heh, I have maybe once ever been on that. To really do stuff you have to have spent money first and I can't spend money so that won't work.
I have never really streamed, my computer is too weak for it. I tried to get it to work but the frame rate is abysmal and the quality horrendous. If I ever want to send videos out into the world I'll have to do it through youtube which asks less of your pc.
Could you link me to that page that turns your comments around
https://www.newgrounds.com/account/sessions also what the fuck is this
Those creepypastas take such a long time ]:\
The only thing really scaring me is my cat when he surprises me; I've read and seen too much shit to be phased by creepypastas lol.
Where do you live currently? I could've gone to Utrecht as well as public transport is free for students :]
Don't have enough money eh? There are extreme sales on games sometimes which is an advantage of Steam.
There's a button next to the Comment header that allows you to change the order of comments (top right): http://www.newgrounds.com/dump/item/d38e167a51e739f2693134aa4ff69dc7
I live in Vianen, Maarten lives in Bilthoven. It's entirely possible for us three to meet up, provided some planning is made.
Oh I have more than enough money Chrausner. I just can't spend it. I want to be like scrooge and put it all in a giant safe somewhere and swim in it.
I thought Maarten was a German guy? I suppose I got that wrong
Yeah before we do a reunion party I need to make sure I actually do well this year at uni so my story gets a happy ending :]
lel, money not spent is money wasted. But I dunno how you got the impression that Maarten's German.
How's University?
Maarten has a German.. face I suppose? I'm not sure how I thought that either. I remember knowing he was from Utrecht at some point.
I've picked one of the toughest studies there is so for the first time in my life I actually have to work for something and be stressed about something. It's useful though: it's basically 80% maths. Are you planning on going to one?
lol no, Maarten looks pretty Dutch.
Maarten and I are both in het VAVO Lyceum (heard of ROC Midden Nederland? Yeah, that kind of school) right now (hij werd gezakt voor VWO5) and I have no choice but to attend volwassen onderwijs. Atm he does Havo-eenjarig and I'm doing HBO-schakel, which will result in both of us going to HBO after a year. So yeah, HBO for me. If I'm doing really well and realizing that my dream study is in Uni, then I will 'doorstroom naar Universiteit' after a year at HBO', cuz that's a possibility.
But brrrr 80% maths, that's insane. What kind of study requires so much mathematics? Something technical?
Good luck with your studies nonetheless. :D
What study are you planning on doing? Do you have a dream study yet at uni/HBO?
What I did was econometrics which was using maths and statistics to make models about the economical world. However, I switched to a study at the Science Park because, believe it or not, that study didn't have enough maths in it :]
Good luck with yours as well
I'm still shifting thoughts, but I'm most likely gonna follow a medical study related to medicine, probably 'apotheker' (Nederlands) ofzo. I don't know the official names for those kinds of study so yeah..I'll leave it at that. If the study can be done in HBO alone, I will stay in HBO.
But duuuude, not enough maths? I shudder at the thought. I suppose it's better for you if you enjoy solving or measuring mathematical equations related to the real world and stuff like that. I prefer leaning more to the side of medicine. :P
I can't believe I stumbled upon this again. Good old times honestly. Hope everyone has been doing well. I don't expect a response even within the next few years LOL. We're all so grown up now : )

@Knuck
I can only describe my situation in two words: IB education. It's ridiculous, some might even say that IB is worse than college. In fact, I'm receiving assignments that are of college level.
@Luigi
Aside from school, I've not been spending much time on the internet (forum-wise, as I usually use the internet for researching or learning nowadays - for personal interest, of course). I'm still working on music, tho.

Oh, if you guys have smartphones (iphone, samsung, windows phone), I highly suggest you guys download the app WeChat, somewhat like Whatsapp but you don't have to pay at all, just need an internet connection. I use my phone mostly for distant social interaction so it'd be cool if you guys get it. :3
Knuckstrike
I just saw you're on one of only 21 schools in China to have that sort of college. That's special.
Wikipedia says it's of about the same level as the education level I'm doing right now. So I guess we're equals ^^
I have no interest in smartphones. I'd rather buy a computer for the same amount of money.
Do you have skype? That's pretty much the same I think.
